In lieu of a regular dispatch, I’d like to share three poems by Victoria Amelina that I translated for the London Ukrainian Review:

If you’re looking for some beautiful writing that channels a fierce Ukrainian spirit, my friend Sasha Dovzhyk has recently launched a substack publication called Ukrainian Killjoy. She will take you around Europe and Ukraine, as she demands that her rich and fascinating homeland be seen and supported. And you’ll understand why when you follow her into the rooted, complex and courageous world of Ukrainian literature.
PS It would not be possible for me to be sitting in Kyiv, indulging in fine turns of phrase, if not for the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers (and some foreign volunteers) holding and pushing back the russian invaders. I’m still raising money to help the King Danylo 24th mechanized brigade up its FPV drone operations in the east. We’ve raised about half of our $3000 goal. You can improve the chances that our defenders will survive intact!
